A dealer I have competed against for years has listed the finest group of exploitation posters I have seen, with a couple of titles I have never seen, ever… which is rare. The only problem is that he wants as much as $2000 a poster. I guess I’ll have to dream and drool.
A new addition to the collection:
I was crushed this week when I lost out on a 1 sheet for the classic exploitation film, “Sinful Souls”. Someone ran me up to $385 before I bailed out. I can’t believe how much these posters have gone up in value. I passed this poster 10 years ago for under $100.
The 3 sheet version also escaped me back in 2005. It was complete, which you usually only see the top 2/3. It went for more than $650, but that was not unexpected.
Damn! I was outbid on a great burlesque poster! I hate it when that happens. And I put a high reserve on my bid. It shows how rare these old good ones are.
The price just keeps going up on the good items. Even in a tough economy.
Sometimes the French & Italian versions of American film posters are far superior. This is the case with the French version of, “The Day The Earth Stood Still” that I just won at auction.
I have been collecting spook show posters for many years now and I think it is time to compile images. Some of these I own and most I don’t, but I am always looking to acquire more. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any you don’t want…
